I have played soccer since I was a kid and I have a solid passion for the game. I am also passionate about mentoring players, helping them set goals to improve their skills, knowledge of the game and vision for what they can contribute. I spent 20 years in the Navy leading young people through motivation and discipline as well as a focus on fitness. I completed a Command Fitness Leader program where I was tasked with leading workouts as both a group and individual training. This is where I learned about evaluation, goal setting and fitness planning. I have coached youth soccer for over 5 years in the recreational level but I enjoy taking someone who has never played the game and make them confident on the pitch. I am also US Soccer Grassroots Level Certified having completed 11v11, 9v9 and 7v7 courses.
I will always find out what the player wants to achieve and add to those goals as I get to know them. After evaluating where they are in skills, understanding of the game and fitness I’ll create a practice plan. Regular reevaluation is necessary to ensure milestones are being reached and if goals need to be adjusted or new ones set. I always keep it lighthearted and motivating to make sure the player is improving while still having fun. Soccer should be fun!
A brief warmup with ball skills, passing and jogging to get the blood flowing. I will come to each session with a primary goal and a secondary goal connected to a previous session.
Example: Primary Goal is control, turn and shoot. We will breakdown the technic but also reference back to the Secondary Goal that could be trapping, shooting the ball or shielding. Depending on how long the session is we can work on scenario based training to connect it to what the player may experience in the game. Always end with a review and things to work on until the next session.

The best coach I ever had was my father who coached my competitive team. He is British, loved the game and grew up playing in the 60’s and 70’s. Besides a shared love of soccer I appreciated how patient he was with all players and their individuality. I still reference back on how he dealt with attitudes, egos, frustrations, skills and teaching tactics. The biggest accomplishment he did was create a team, get it sponsored by the local police department and coach a group of players from a lower income neighborhood to give them an opportunity to play on a proper team. I knew at the time it was significant but didn’t understand how special it was until I was older.
While I love to play soccer I represent the “those who can’t do, teach” type of coach. I don’t juggle, can’t do a rainbow and if I tried a bicycle kick I’d end up in the hospital. I teach skills but I like to always bring a focus on how it applies to the game. If it can’t help a player in a game then I don’t coach it, making a smarter player who can read the game is what I focus on.

To follow up with a coach you've already contacted, log into your account and find the 'Inbox' tab. You'll see your message history and be able to send another note.
Once you find a coach that fits your needs, go to their profile, select the package you'd like to purchase, and click 'Book Lessons'. Here, you can reserve your desired number of lessons along with the number of athletes who will be training. After sessions are booked, coordinate the dates/times for each session on your calendar - using the calendar is important since this is how your coach will get paid.
Paying AU coaches via cash, Venmo, or any 3rd party is strictly prohibited. AU coaches know this, but their partnership with us is to split all bookings 80/20 - so coaches keep 80%. We use our 20% to help them find clients & manage their business. Without the split, we wouldn't be able to help our coaches & community thrive!
We integrate with Stripe - the largest & most secure payment processor in the US - to facilitate bookings. Paying online is required, and it simplifies the process for our coaches since it helps track their schedule & earnings in one place. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our support team.
Each coach typically has at least one preferred training location. You can see the location(s) by going to your coach's profile and finding the 'Training Locations' section. If a coach doesn't have locations listed here, you can message the coach to see where they train. Some coaches are willing to travel to clients for lessons, or even meet halfway.
Each coach sets their own schedule for training. You can see a coach's general availability by going to their profile and finding the 'Availability' section - it will list the days and times. If a coach doesn't post their availability, or if your preferred coach doesn't have your desired times available but you want to double check, message them to see if they can work with your schedule.
The AU guarantee (refund policy) has you covered! If you determine the coach isn't a good fit after your first lesson, let us know within 24 hours and you're eligible for a refund. We will also be happy to recommend another coach - be sure to contact our support team.
