Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
The best coach I ever had was my college coach. Not only did she coach collegiately, but she also assisted the Olympic track team. She is very resilient. During my sophomore year when one of the other coaches suddenly left, she took over a multitude of other athletes. She met with each one of us and made us feel comfortable and then went over our goals. Each and every one of her athletes had an individualized training plan that best fit them and their goals. I aspire to be as good and thoughtful of a coach as she is.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Kinesiology. Not only can I provide workouts for athletes, but I can also provide scientific backing for them. I was the Vice President of my University's Student Athlete Advisory Committee and also completed a career readiness program called Gossett Fellows. Currently I am getting my Masters at Northwestern in Prosthetics and Orthotics.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
I have helped coach Girls on the Run, volunteered with Special Olympics, and helped coach Lacrosse. I also completed a coaching course at the University of Maryland which helped me develop the skills necessary to become a coach. I also have interned under a strength and conditioning coach and a physical therapist.
How can you help someone improve their game?
I will tailor their sessions to their specific goals and needs in by making them faster and stronger. I will also provide workouts 24 hours before a training session so the athlete and their family knows what they will be doing during the session. I will also suggest a weekly training plan for endurance based workouts the athlete can do on their own.
What does a typical training session look like?
A typical training session will begin with a running workout and a dynamic stretching warm up. Then the "workout" component will be either speed based (faster intervals), endurance based (longer intervals, or strength based (a mixture). These intervals will be followed by bouts of rest, This workout will challenge the athlete to get out of their normal running pace comfort zone. This will then be followed with a cool down and static stretching. Each workout will be tailored to the athlete and their specific needs.
