How can you help someone improve their game?
I improve a player’s game by starting with a detailed scouting report after observing their shooting, dribbling, and footwork. This evaluation identifies strengths to build upon and areas that need improvement. By focusing on what the player does well, I help refine and expand those skills to create confidence and consistency. For weaknesses, I develop tailored drills and strategies to address and overcome them, ensuring balanced development. This approach creates a customized training plan that not only improves the player’s technical skills but also boosts their basketball IQ, making them a more complete and effective player on the court.
What does a typical training session look like?
In our initial basketball workout, the focus will be on evaluating the athlete’s current skill level to understand where they excel and where improvement is needed. The session will include a mix of shooting, dribbling, and footwork drills. For shooting, we’ll work on spot shooting from various angles, off-the-dribble shooting, catch-and-shoot techniques, and free throws to assess form, consistency, and shooting under pressure. In dribbling, we’ll go through ball-handling drills, including stationary and dynamic movements like crossovers, behind-the-back, and game-like scenarios to evaluate control and decision-making. Footwork drills will focus on pivoting, jab steps, offensive positioning, and defensive slides to test balance, agility, and explosiveness. After the session, I’ll provide feedback on the athlete’s strengths and areas for growth. Based on this evaluation, the next training sessions will be customized to build on their strengths and address any weaknesses, using targeted drills that will help the athlete develop into a more well-rounded and confident player.
