Why We Created Athletes Untapped

Stick Skill Foundations: Soft Catching, Pocket Control, and Fast Release Passing in CMR

Athletes Untapped starts stick work on open grass where the ball can bounce unpredictably if hands get stiff. Our coaches teach receiving as absorption first, then quick release, so athletes don’t cradle forever. We’ll run ā€œcatch-to-pass clocksā€ where players must catch, settle, and pass within a set count, and the count shrinks as technique improves. Athletes feel the difference when the ball stops feeling like it’s escaping them.

Dodging With Purpose: Angle Creation, Top-Hand Discipline, and Separation Without Over-Dribbling

Dodgers often try to win with speed alone, then get funneled into help defense. Our coaches teach dodging as angle-making: move the defender’s feet, then take the space they give you. We’ll do ā€œcone leverageā€ reps where defenders are allowed to shade one side, and the attacker must win the opposite lane using a controlled top-hand move, with Athletes Untapped giving one-word cues that keep athletes from overthinking. Players usually feel more dangerous when their moves get simpler.

Defensive Positioning: Approach Steps, Stick Checks That Don’t Overcommit, and Crease Protection

Athletes Untapped teaches defenders to arrive under control, not flying in. Our coaches want approach steps that close space while keeping hips ready to turn. We’ll run ā€œno-lunge defense,ā€ where any lunge resets the rep, forcing defenders to use footwork and stick angles to guide attackers away from the crease. Athletes start trusting their feet when they see stops come from positioning, not slaps.

Finishing Variety: Time-and-Room Mechanics, Quick-Stick Touches, and Low-Corner Accuracy

Finishers in games often miss because they shoot the same way every time. Our coaches teach shot variety so goalies can’t settle. We’ll do ā€œshot menuā€ rounds where athletes must score using a different finish each rep, including quick-sticks and low bouncers, and Athletes Untapped tracks which finishes feel natural versus forced. Players feel momentum when they realize they can score without a perfect windup.

Transition Play: Clearing Communication, Outlet Passing, and Midfield Spacing That Stays Organized

Clear attempts can collapse when athletes bunch up and shout too much. Our coaches teach spacing as the first form of communication. We’ll run ā€œsilent clears,ā€ where athletes can’t talk until the first outlet pass is completed, then must use short calls to keep lanes open, and Athletes Untapped reinforces spacing when pressure ramps up. Athletes often feel the game slow down when the field finally looks wider.
