Athletic Background
Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I swam competitively for Southwest Aquatics Team (SWAT) out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin from 2006-2019, and in high school with Marquette University High School (also in Milwaukee) from 2015-2019. I competed at Club State from 2012-2018, Central Zones in 2013, and at Division 1 High School State from 2015-2019. My favorite events were the 100 Backstroke and the 200 Backstroke, and I was also accomplished at the 100 Butterfly.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Coach Dave Willoughby was my Club coach from 2008-2011 and 2013-2015. While at times the club’s board did not always agree with his coaching style, I always felt learned and achieved under his supervision.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
Whatever you or your child’s goals are in the water, I will cater to a carefully executed plan to help them achieve those goals as efficiently as possible while still keeping tasks light and fun. This is my passion, and hopefully, if not already, it can one day be yours too.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
My club team, Southwest Aquatics (SWAT), ran a swim lessons program for swimmers aged 5-10 that I participated in from 2015-2019, teaching fundamentals such as water comfort and floating to the four strokes. While stationed in Kodiak, Alaska with the United States Coast Guard, I became a USA Swimming certified Assistant Coach for the Kodiak Kingfishers Swim Club. I coached until I transferred from late 2021 until early 2024, and towards the end was assisting and primarily coaching 3-4 groups sometimes upwards of 20 hours a week in addition to working 40 hours a week with the Coast Guard. I did it because I enjoyed it, and wrote 80% of my own workouts while also improving an existing dryland program through structure. Since arriving in San Diego, I have not had any opportunities to coach, but have been focusing on my own swimming career and working towards an average of 6 hours a week in the water and approximately 10 miles a week.
How can you help someone improve their game?
If you or your swimmer do not feel that they are achieving their goals in the water and their needs as an athlete are not being met by their club/high school/or personal training schedule, I will analyze the existing load of yardage and structure that is being presented and find a way to fit extra or corrected curriculum that meets their needs and allows them to excel at the rate they choose.
What does a typical training session look like?
I plan to offer classes in lengths of 30 minutes to 2 hours (or whatever the need is) and allow for a coordinated warm up potentially involving dryland in the form of active stretching, light cardio, a long and strong mid distance to distance pool swim, and then follow it up with some heavily technique focused drill work, a challenging main set catered to the goals of the swimmers, then wrap up with some turns and/or starts work and a mid-distance long and strong cool down followed by static stretching.
