Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
I have had the great fortune of having several amazing coaches. My favorites pushed me to limits I never thought I could reach both mentally and physically while teaching me valuable life lessons and building my character for life beyond soccer. These lessons helped me overcome obstacles in my career that other players might not have surpassed, so I'm forever grateful for the traits I developed from the lessons my coaches taught me through soccer.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I love sports, health, fitness, and competition, and I love helping others achieve their goals, especially when it comes to sports, health, and fitness. My coaching philosophy is highly individualized to the athlete - some respond well to competition, some to positive reinforcement, etc., so I try to cater to the athlete based on their personality. I like to start with fundamentals and build up to game realistic scenarios so the athlete can execute the fundamentals under pressure.
Coaching Background
Summary of Coaching Background
Private lessons, usually in 1-on-1 or small group sessions since 2019. I coached 5-10-year-olds in soccer when I was in high school. In college, I helped at camps over the summer and coached groups of 8-13-year-old players and high school-aged players. Since becoming a professional soccer player, I've coached private sessions for all ages.
How can you help someone improve their game?
Ultimately, the goal of training is to improve performance in competition. In training sessions, I test the athlete in several situations in which they need to react and adapt to a changing situation because that's what happens in games. This helps decision making, promotes natural movements, and allows the athlete to develop solutions on their own, which improves their ability to do so in competition.
What does a typical training session look like?
I usually start off with basic ball-work to get the player warmed-up and ready for the session, then go into more advanced and intense drills, and finish with game-like scenarios to see the techniques in action.
