Why Train With Me?

Train with a current high school coach with over 300 varsity wins! I am currently a high school boys basketball coach and I have been coaching for over twenty years and won over 300 games. I have placed nearly 50 of our high school players into varying levels of college basketball. I was named the 2023 National Christian School Athletic Association Coach of the Year. I train boys basketball players from beginner to pro.

Athletic Background

Summary of Career and Accomplishments
I played JV and Varsity basketball in high school in Columbia, South Carolina. I later played with two sports ministry basketball teams named Athletes in Action and Sports Ambassadors. We played in the Philippines, El Salvador, and Guatemala.
Who is the best coach you ever had and why?
Although he was not my Coach, Mike Caprarola is one of the best coaches I have been associated with in my basketball career. Coach Cap, as we call him, was one of the assistant coaches on my coaching staff at Chapelgate Christian Academy for over ten years. Coach Cap kept basketball in perspective, made the game simple, was ahead of his time in terms of systems and strategies, and remained positive even during adversity.
What should athletes and parents know about you?
I am married with four adult children. My wife has served alongside me in my coaching profession down through the years. All four of our children played high school and college sports. I have coached all of my children in various sports down through the years. Our daughter played high school soccer and received a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 soccer and track. All three of our sons played high school and college basketball. One son received a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 basketball, one son received a partial scholarship to play NAIA basketball, and one son played NCAA Division 3 basketball. One of our sons continues to play professional basketball overseas currently.

Coaching Background

Summary of Coaching Background
I have coached boys high school varsity basketball for over twenty years and have recorded over 300 wins. I have also placed close to 50 players into varying levels of college basketball from our high school program. I have coached high school JV basketball as well first grade through eighth grade basketball. I was named the 2023 National Christian School Athletic Association Coach of the Year. I am a member as a coach of the National Alliance for Youth Sports (NAYS).
How can you help someone improve their game?
I can help players improve their game because I approach coaching as if I were still coaching one of my own children. This approach coupled with being a professional educator for 35 years helps me in the delivery of instruction. I can help beginners learn the fundamentals as well as help pros get in a meaningful workout.
What does a typical training session look like?
Training can be with up to six players. Advantages of multiple player training are the session costs are lower and players can compete against one another. A typical individual or group training session will include a brief conversation to start the session. This conversation will include a word of encouragement, a point of emphasis, and/or input from the player(s) as to what they need or want to work on. Once the training starts, there will be very little stoppage due to talking. Instruction will be given in brief soundbites. The player(s) will be moving, have a ball in their hands nearly the whole time, and improving conditioning while playing. Effort will be made to work on things that translate directly into the players' games. Emphasis will be on skill development particularly, but not limited to, shooting and ball handling.
